Tasca do Celso is one of those restaurants that one has to try at least once in a lifetime. And, if you are a fan of Vila Nova de Milfontes, then it really is a must.
The restaurant opened almost ten years ago, the result of the passionate and committed work and effort of its owner, José Cardoso, better known as “Celso”, just like his father, to whom he rendered a heartfelt homage when he so named it. The family moved from north-eastern Portugal (Beiras) to Milfontes in the seventies. The house that became Tasca do Celso, on the same street where he lives, had always been one of Celso’s favourites.
The concept is simple but sophisticated: great food, a great wine selection, an electrifying dynamism and a constant desire to surprise his clients. And so it is with the menu: there is always something new to taste as well as the irresistible delicacies such as Clams Celso’s style, linguiça with scrambled eggs (linguiça is one of many types of Portuguese pork sausage), different types of salads and shrimp. Afterwards, you will have to choose from a varied menu that always includes Celso’s legendaries suggestions: steak a la plancha, roasted baby goat or “shrimp açorda” (a Portuguese traditional recipe), besides the always fresh fish from our shore.
The wine cellar is loaded with real treasures, with a wide variety of wines from Alentejo, Douro, Dão e Bairrada. Wine connoisseurs will not be disappointed.
Desserts match the quality of the appetizers and main courses. Try the mouth watering “sericaia”, or the also famous “arroz doce” (rice pudding), among others.
Vila Nova de Milfontes offers numerous attractions. That is why it is one of the most popular in Alentejo’s coast. Ocean and river beaches, shopping and a vibrant nightlife are just a few of the reasons to visit this ancient fishing village.
